KARATE LINEAGE

Mr. Thurston and Ms. Laiosa are what one might call fifth or sixth generation teachers. What this means in this context is:

1st Generation: Master Chou Tze Hou (Shushiwa in Hogan?) Province, China where the system originated.

2nd Generation: Master Kanbun Uechi student of Shushiwa.

3rd Generation: Master Kanei Uechi, student and son of Master Kanbun Uechi. There are other instructors alive as well and teaching who were also students of Uechi Kanbun.

4th Generation: Students of Uechi Kanei: George Mattson Sensei is an example and other students of Uechi Kanei .

5th Generation: Students of students of Uechi Kanei such as Mr. Thurston and Ms. Laiosa with their Senior, Sensei John (Jack) V.  Summers.

The presently acknowledged Senior Senseis on Okinawa for the Shohei Ryu are Sensei Nakahamo and Master Shintaku Takara.
