Sensei John Thurston:Shihan Shohei Style Director

Sensei (Teacher) John Thurston, 5^th Dan, born 1946, is a practicing Real Estate Attorney and Writer. He began his martial arts studies under Robert Blaisdel in 1976. He began teaching on his own in 1983. At that time his acknowledged instructors were Sensei Jon Cierri (now 6th Dan) and Sensei George E. Mattson (now 9th dan). Mr. Thurston continues studies in Tai Chi, Ba Fa, Iron Shirt "Chi Kung" under Sifu John Loudos of Jade Forest Tai CHI Fung Fu In Cohasset, MA.

Denise Valentine Laiosa, Shohei Ryu instructor

Denise Valentine Laiosa teaches karate classes for children, teens/adults and women at the Norwell Karate School, MA. She has a 4^th Dan black belt in Uechi/Shohei Ryu karate and continues to study under Jack Summers, 9^th Dan in Quincy , MA . In April, 2004, Denise joined 25 other women from around the world on the “Women’s Friendship Tour” to train in Okinawa , Japan . Denise has taught self defense programs for the past eight years in medical and corporate settings, schools, neighborhoods, recreation centers and most recently, shelters. She also teaches “Home Alone, Staying Safe” child safety programs through the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth MA and other South Shore venues.
